. this will depend on the Brand & Type you use. GM installs the Block Heater in the Freeze / Expansion Plug hole, by the Oil Filter. It is a Rubber / Metal type, that when you tighten the Nut on the Block Heater, it expands the Rubber into the Freeze / Expansion Plug hole to seal it.
