Why does my check engine light not turn on?
The PCM makes the ground to turn on the light. See below on right of diagram,There is nothing else inbetween. You have one of 3 things going on. Either the cluster is bad and the connection for the bulb in the cluster not working OR there is a break or cut in the wire from PCM to cluster OR you have a bad PCM not sending the ground signal.
How old is the Check Engine light bulb?
I have seen quite a few times the inability to communicate with the ECM through a scanner, but no “check engine” with the key in the “ON” position, not so familiar to me. Sure the bulb is 14 years old but how many hours has it burned for, probably not many, pretty odd.

Where are the warning lights on a 2000?
Thanks guys. the warning lights on a 2000 are right on the circuit board for the cluster and don’t have seperate sockets with leads on them. One day when i am feeling adventurous again I will pull it out again and check for continuity with my tester and check the ecu as well.

What’s the best way to reset a check engine light?
In such a case, it is highly recommended to check the codes with a scanner instead. Switching the ignition on and off is also one method of hard reset without disconnecting batteries. Put the keys in your ignition and turn your ignition on and off consecutively after a second in each step.
