How do you adjust the carburetor on a 40 HP Mercury 2 stroke outboard?
Turn the idle speed screw on the carburetor linkage to adjust the motor’s speed to between 700 and 800 rpm. Put the motor in “Forward.” Turn the mixture screw clockwise until the motor begins to misfire. Turn the screw counterclockwise one-quarter turn or until the motor no longer misfires.
How do you adjust throttle on Mercury outboard?
Throttle Adjustment
- Loosen the throttle cable adjuster jam-nut with the wrenches.
- Push the control lever forward to the “Forward idle” position.
- Pull the control lever back, through neutral, into the reverse idle position.
- Push the throttle to the “Full forward” position.
How do you adjust the idle on a 9.9 Mercury?
Idle speed screw (equipped models)
- Shift the Mercury outboard engine into neutral and back the throttle twist grip into slow position.
- Completely push in the primer/fast idle knob and then fully rotate the knob counterclockwise.
- Using a flat-head screwdriver, back idle speed screw off of cam follower.
