Where is the water pump inlet tube located?
The water pump inlet tube is usually located at the bottom of the water pump and pulls coolant from the radiator into the engine. Over time and due to heat cycling, the water pump inlet tube can corrode and leak.
What to do if your water pump inlet tube is leaking?
If you notice a leak at the water pump inlet tube, it should be replaced. Some may be threaded into the water pump while others may seal with an O-ring and/or hose clamp.
How big should pump pipe be between pump inlet and elbow?
Include 5 to 10 pipe diameters of straight run pipe between the pump inlet and elbow. This helps to eliminate “side loading” of the pump impeller and creates uniform pump axial bearing loading. Want More Insider Information from Crane Engineering? CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE TO OUR BLOG!
How is abrasive injected into a pump inlet?
The basic water-blast unit consists of an engine-driven pump, inlet water filter, pressure gauge, hydraulic hose, gun, and nozzle combination. Abrasive is injected into the system after water is pressurized by means of a suction head to prevent pump damage. It is usually injected at the blast gun before the nozzle.

How is the inlet of a pump operated?
The inlet pumps are to be operated from control shaft to lift the rubber dam. Care should be taken that the water on the upstream should not be less than half a meter from top of the rubber. In the control room, the rubber dam level and water levels will be automatically screened and regulated accordingly.
What should I do if my pump inlet is lean?
If the inflows are lean, proper time should be taken to pool the water on U/S side, and the rubber dam is to be raised to the maximum height duly observing water level not less than half a meter. For lowering the dam, the drainage pipe is to be operated.
