Is the CDI on a car a bother?
It’s actually no bother at all. Most of the time when actually moving the engine is close to silent and only really makes much noise at cold idle and when accelerating harder using over 2k rpm.
Why is my C220 CDI sport in 3rd gear?
As I pulled away from the lights, it felt like the car was stuck in 3rd gear and it wouldnt change up or down I also tried to press the Sport button but it remained in comfort. I got to my mums, switched it all off and then restarted it 5 mins later.

Almost no-one buys a manual Merc saloon. Used buyers expect them to be auto. The gear change on the manual used to be horrible but the gearboxes seem to be much better now. I’d buy auto for ease of resale (and to avoid that ‘oh, it’s a manual, is it?’ line from the dealer on trade-in). I’ve driven a current 220 CDI auto. Nice.
Why does my C220 CDI not change gears?
I have a 51 plate C220 CDi and it doesnt seem to want to change gear, will go into reverse and neutral fine, but soon as i put it into drive it stays in 1st gear and wont change up also wont change via tiptronic way. the cruise control stick says theres a fault on it could this be why the gearbox isnt changing? Why does my Mercedes-Benz 220cdi not start?
If the R relay was defective the engine would crank but not start when power is brought directly to the start fuse as can be demonstrated by removing the R relay. I have established that the 85 and 86 on the starter relay are working as they should and therefore pulling in the relay by energising the coil.
