What is injector leak back?
Leak back is the release of excess pressure in the fuel injectors that return the extra fuel back to the fuel tank. In other words, it can be thought of like a pressure check valve on the top of the diesel injector.
What causes excessive injector leak back?
Excessive back leakage in the injectors means that the high pressure pump cannot provide enough pressure. This is particularly pronounced at starting or tick-over because of the low engine and low pump speed. Blow-by can result when the injector does not seal properly.
What does it mean when your fuel injector is leaking?
Leaking fuel injectors can cause Oil Thinning At engine shutdown the fuel pressure should maintain operating pressure or just below that for a substantial period of time. Fuel injector pintle, ball or disc seat leaks as well as the bottom O-ring leak on a side feed injector will cause fuel to escape into the intake manifold.
Is the No 2 injector seal leaking in a Mercedes Sprinter?
In a recent Mercedes Sprinter engine replacement (Used engine fitment) it was noticed at the time of purchase that there was an issue with No.2 Injector seal leaking.
Why does my Mercedes injector keep bottoming out?
Bottoming can occur because of debris at bottom of the blind hole. Tightening the fresh hold down bolt and seal ring will produce the same clamping force (defined by seal ring crush thickness) regardless of which of the 2 torque specs are used.
Can a fuel injector be removed from an engine?
With electricity flowing, check your fuel pumps for any leaking. If you find them clean then you have completed your task. If you find that this has not fixed your problem, it will become necessary to replace the injector itself. Locate your injectors, now you can use a fuel injector puller to remove the injector from the engine.

What to do if you have a leak in your injector seal?
Doing 1×90 might be a good recipe for new leaks. Looking at the old seals it seems like they are “eaten” by erosion and then after some time develops a leak. I put some small thin oil on the bolt threads before doing the 7Nm. This was a quite easy job. BUT If done on a cold engine it might turn into a nightmare.
How do you seal a Mercedes diesel injector?
Once the injector is fully inserted, with the fuel connection pointing to the fuel rail, add the clamp and loose-fit the clamp bolt to hold things in place.
