What temp should my engine run at?
between 195 degrees and 220 degrees
Most experts agree that your engine should run between 195 degrees and 220 degrees. In ideal situations, your needle will maintain a posture right in the middle of your gauge. Keep in mind that this can go up or down depending on the conditions in the vehicle itself (such as running the air conditioner or heater).
Is the normal operating temperature 100 degrees or less?
My car is the same but even in average not really hot weather in traffic/stop start driving temp always does go up to about 100 degrees, no more, but will sit at about 85 degrees normally. I don’t feel anything’s really amiss but as above did wonder if the thermostat was working fine.
What’s the normal operating temperature for a car?
If traffic is moving on the high way driving 60 to 70 the temperature goes from 80 to 100 degrees. Is it OK to run a car at 100 degrees?
The block and ancillaries may be fine at 100 degrees but any unnecessary heat build up will over time destroy your cables and make your plastics brittle. A little extra cooling might go a long way.

What should the temp of an engine be?
As per the previous post, normally your gauge has no numbers, they just confuse drivers, but an operating range; and if the gauge is about halfway up that’s your normal operating temperature. Any major deviation from that is cause for concern and should be investigated.
How can you tell if an engine is running too hot or too cool?
To really know if an engine is, or is not, running too hot, or too cool, is to use an accurate thermometer. How smoothly an emgine runs can INDICATE (but, not prove) that it is (or, not) running at the correct temperature. The normal operating temperature of the coolant in an engine is about 210F to 240F degrees.
