Why did my rev counter stop working when I fitted an ignition?

One the thing is that the Rev counter does not work. It was suggested by the previous owner that it stopped working when he fitted the electronic ignition. I’ve not heard of this before. I don’t know the brand of electronic ignition but it is the type that fits into the distributor. Any ideas if this is correct
