I tried to get away without doing it and had the motor in and out several times and am ending up having to go there anyway. would have been so much easier to start that way from the beginning.

Is the engine swap in a 380SL bad?
The swap itself is not bad. It is the pictures and marking all the sensors and marking the wiring and the vacume lines ect… then once the motor is out, all the other work you do to the engine bay and parts you normally can’t get to. The swap itself goes back in like the 3.8 came out. You need to use the sl oil pan.

When to replace fuel pump in Mercedes 380SL?
If fuel is flowing well from the tank to the pump, check the main fuel filter outside the pump and replace it. If the pump continues to hum with 12 volts going to it, it may be necessary to replace the pump to fix the problem.
