Where is the U joint on the smart steering column?
(The tech I was talking to was doing a ”B” service on a 2 yo smart that had only 9,000kms )My next stop was at The Mufflerman where I spoke to the manager. Right away he said it would be the U joint on the end of the steering column. A test drive confirmed the diagnosis.
Why does my lilbit smart have heavy steering?
Two days ago Lilbit (2006 Pulse-182,000) was reported to have heavy steering. I suspected low tire pressure and did have to add air all around. However the problem didn’t go away and it seemed like you were driving with a flat tire at times. The service advisors and techs at the dealer had not encountered this problem with any other smarts.
What to do if u-joint on smart car goes bad?
If its just a u-joint and you have other means of transportation, i would remove it and take it to a driveline speciality shop to see if there is another replacement joint with the same dimentions. As you know the dealers want to sell assemblies (bigger dollars) rather that repair components.
