Why does my Mercedes Benz Vito not start?
However, sometimes when I try to start the vehicle (normally within approx 20 minutes of turning it off), the engine will either turn over but not fire or, will turn over and fire but not start. In all cases, the engine turns over without a problem so I don’t think it’s the starter motor.

There is no way of priming the van and it is not self priming, as long as the diesel filter is full of fuel the van will start. Is the EDC light on ?. Is the battery good ?. Have you read the codes with a scanner? if so what are they. 1 x 190e, 2 x vito cdi 110 many spares…. still the vito wont start…..

No rust (and it’s been through the tropics). No mechanical problems. some dicky electronics (fog lamp switches and erratic alternator dashboard light after 8 years + an faded odometer light ). It’sbeen driven around australia and at one stage was doing round trips of 3600km every week. It never missed a beat.

Is the Vito a small van or a Big Van?
Sorry, buit I find throw away comments like that just don’t stand up to basic tests of rigour. My Vito is atypical of the reputation that MB Vans have in this country – and they’re regarded as now intruding right into the japanese/korean small van market.
