Another commonly found spindle is when both bearing Inside Diameter’s are the same and this is called a “Straight Spindle”. These spindles are commonly found on axles rated at less than 3,500lbs.
How can you tell the difference in a spindle?
If the Hub is available to measure, than Hub Length* can be used to determine the difference. If the hub is not available you can measure the spindle from the seal surface shoulder to the beginning of the thread as shown: *Hub Length is the distance through the center of the hub from casting edge to casting edge.

What should I do if my spindle is not working?
Verify adequate air pressure at spindle. Verify pull studs are the correct type for your spindle. If drawbar is in adjustment, attempt to adjust sensor according to machine tool manual. If no reading from the sensor can be obtained, remove sensor and test against any metallic object. If still no reading, contact PDS for replacement and assistance.
Can a broken spindle on an axle be repaired?

How much does a new axle and spindle cost?
New axle with spindles and bearings on it for my trailer ran about $140. Time to change out was less than repacking bearings. Now if you have breaks its going to be a little more but still doable. What brand of trailer is it. If you try to repair and it isn’t perfect you will wear tires out. That will cost you more time and trouble.
Can a spindle be cut off a CT axle?
Your old spindle is cut off. Each new spindle has an extension that is inserted into your housing to give it stability. The housing is preheated prior to assembly. This ensures a tight fit. The spindle is checked for straightness and the seam is welded. The brakes and hub can reinstalled once the assembly is cool.
How big of a spindle can I repair?
We can also do just a rethread of just the end of the spindle. Spindles up to 4 ¾” OD can be serviced. What we don’t do is remove or replace your wheels, hubs and brakes.
