A 2008 ML320 CDI is by far a less troublesome model compared to the 2006 ML350. Sorry to say MB really tarnished its name due to the 3.5 liter gas M272 engine and early differential issues on its first year run of 2006. I say keep your CDI as long as you can (but get a reputable extended warranty).
