Can PARKTRONIC be added?
RE: Adding Parktronic Actually installing Parktronic is relatively straightforward since some of the wiring is already in place due to digital control. This aspect means some coding (need MB equipment) will be needed. Installing a “similar” non MB system is a little easier AND will cost a fraction of the money.

- Install the sensors in the front and/or rear bumpers, or the camera on the license plate.
- Choose the appropriate angle rings for that particular vehicle.
- Install the angle rings.
- Install the speaker and LCD screen.
- Connect to the power supply.
How do I activate PARKTRONIC?
PARKTRONIC is automatically activated when you turn the SmartKey to position 2 in the ignition lock. Fold in the ball coupling if the trailer tow hitch is not required. PARKTRONIC measures the minimum detection range to an obstacle from the bumper, not the ball coupling.
Why is my PARKTRONIC not working?
Make sure all the sensors are plugged in. None of the wires are damaged or cut due to an accident or previous repair work. Unplug the electrical connector and check the terminals/pins on the sensor for corrosion. If you are missing one of the sensors, replace it with a genuine Mercedes Parking Sensor.

What is the radome on a Mercedes SL550?
The radome (antenna) is the circular front badge, which is made of solid, clear black plastic. The SL500 shown doesn’t happen to have that option, so it has the usual ventilated grille star. This SL550 just happens to have parktronic, which are the four sonar transducers seen as 1/2″ circles on the front bumper.
