Why does my Mercedes tell me to replace the battery?
This morning however the message was “Key not detected” so I had to start the car using the actual key. Then when I restarted the car after driving about an hour it detected the key and I could start the car with the push button, but the message to replace the battery appeared again.

You might have a issue with the keyless go system or your EIS ( electronic ignition switch) For sure try what Auto Centric recommends to check the starter battery but i dont think a starter battery will give you a No Key Detected message. If remote key battery does not work. I would try another remote key and if that does not work.
