How does a shut off valve on a diesel work?
The shut off valve will pull the linkage toward itself. If you get the valve on the other side of the internal linkage, it would force the linkage to the full throttle position. To install just take the new valve and install the new gaskets on either side of the metal disc that came off the old valve.

Why is my Mercedes-Benz intake port shutoff motor gone?
Damn right I expect Mercedes to take responsibility. The same for the heating element that fails in the adblue system. There is another component to the motor failure, it is that I am told that the intake is very dirty caused by PCV and EGR being mixed. This also is the root cause and is caused by bad design.
Is the M55 intake port shutoff motor malfunctioning?
A scan of the codes indicates the M55 intake port shutoff motor is malfunctioning. I searched the site and can only see a similar problem in an 05 CDI, so the engine is different than mine. Can anyone tell me if replacing this is a big job? I guess it’s not a common problem as I can only find one reference to it here.
