Why is smoke coming from my engine bay?
Smoke often leaves car engines as a result of overheating. This can be caused by faulty wire casings, heated residues on the engine block and overheated liquids including oil, transmission fluid and brake fluid. There may also be a fault in your coolant system, or your engine may not have enough lubricant.
What does white smoke from engine bay mean?
White or grey smoke indicates water in the cylinders, likely due to a coolant leak through the intake gasket or head gasket. Odds are good that if you’ve got any kind of smoke coming from the engine bay, then it’s due to oil leaking from somewhere and dropping onto the exhaust manifold or catalytic converter.
What does burning oil smell like in a car?
Burning oil smells like the burnt version of what’s on your oil dipstick and is pretty easy to recognize. While engine oil has a relatively high flash point compared to gasoline, it can still burn given the right conditions. If your car smells like burning oil, do an inspection to make sure that oil isn’t a fire hazard.
What does white smoke from headlight front hood smell like?
Same thing like you white smoke from headlight/front of hood and burning rubber smell. Thanks for contributing an answer to Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Stack Exchange!
Why does my car have a white smoke smell?
This often causes the oil to enter the exhaust pipe. The pipe is hot while the car is running and you may get a strong smell, sometimes white smoke from exhaust pipe. It’s a common phenomenon while driving uphill when you have to rev the engine more.

Alternator smoking is fairly unlikely unless the alternator is completely fried, in which case you should get a check engine light and a low voltage light. If your engine puffs out an occasional stream of white smoke, it could be steam coming from your coolant overflow tank.
