How do you lubricate piston rings?
Apply a liberal amount of oil to the wrist pins and piston rings as well. You don’t need to drench the piston in oil—use enough to lubricate the rings as they pass through the piston ring compressor. No need to dunk the piston and ring assembly in a quart of oil!
Will seafoam help piston rings?
In addition to using HIGH MILEAGE, you can run Sea Foam Spray through your engine’s intake or spray it directly into cylinder cavities to let pistons soak, cleaning rings from the top end. It will also clean intake valves, which is particularly important on gasoline direct injection engines.
What happens when the piston rings get stuck?
The rings expand against the cylinder wall and seal the combustion chamber. This ensures that the engine maintains a consistent level of compression. Stuck piston rings are uncommon, but they do occur. There are two positions in which the rings can get stuck.
Why is the ATF Trick Bad for the engine?
The ATF absorbs the extra fuel, and allows the apex seals form a better better seal and build up compression. The engine then starts and burns off the ATF. The problem is, quite a number of people use the ATF trick as a general cure-all. What they don’t realize is that ATF is in fact bad for the engine.
What happens to spark plugs when you use ATF?
Excessive use of ATF also has other side effects. For one, the spark plugs are fouled much more quickly. This is due to the deposits that build up as the ATF burns. It may not be a big deal, but fouled spark plugs need to be replaced otherwise they will cause loss of power and gas mileage.

Why are the piston rings on my car stuck?
The reason that I suspect stuck rings is that the previous owner put in new rings a long time ago but did not drive the car much. Especially the last three or four years it was mot use at all. I have been driving the car for about 1,700 miles now with modern detergent oil.
