Is there an engine swap for a Mazda Miata?
BP-VE (with VVT function) engine swap / MX-5 Miata BP-VE (with VVT) engine swap for Mazda Miata/MX-5 Maruha’s original program is being sold separately. The tuning technique of swapping the BP-VE engine (variable valve timing / VVT) used after the NB8 Sr-2 into the NA8 and NB8 (early model) is a technique used by other garages too.
Can a 1.6 intake manifold be used on a Miata?
If you use an NB intake manifold (which moves the throttle body closer to the valve cover) and a 1.6 auto TPS (which is much thicker than the manual version), you’ll find hard interference between the TPS and the valve cover. This may or may not be solvable, depending on how aggressive you’re willing to get with modifications.
How does the BP engine work on a Miata?
In the case of the BP engine the crankshaft is fixed in the engine block using only 5 main caps. In the case of the engines of other companies the main cap is built-in in a ladder beam style. Our company doesn’t aim for such a high performance when talking about Miata/Mx-5 engines.
Where can I get a Miata engine rebuild kit?
The kit does not include piston rings, oil or water pumps. It also doesn’t include sealant for shipping reasons, but you can get it locally – we recommend Permatex “Right Stuff” from NAPA, 7652694. Fits Exocet?
Is there a 1.8 engine in a Miata?
People have been installing 1.8 engines in Miatas that originally came with 1.6es since the 1.8 engine was available. It’s a pretty straightforward swap, but there are a few important things to know. Be sure to read this entire document before purchasing parts or starting the swap. No, really, read it all.
Can a timing belt break on a Miata?
The Miata engine is a non-interference engine, meaning that the pistons will not crash into the valves. However, if you neglect this major service, you risk being stranded due to a belt break. WARNING: Changing your own timing belt is not for the faint of heart!
Do you need a throttle body adapter for a Miata?
You’ll need to retain the 1.6 throttle body (because of the throttle position sensor) and the 1.6 ignition coils – hence the reason we sell a throttle body adapter and coil bracket as part of our conversion kit. But wait! You have a complete donor car, so you can just use the 1.8 ECU and wiring, right? Nope.
What kind of sensor does Miata 94-97 use?
On 94 – 97 engines, you’ll need to swap over your two-wire sensor, but you can use the 1.6 or 1.8 one-wire sensor (after extending the wire). On 99 – 05 engines, you’ll need to remove the single three-wire sensor, as it’s not compatible with the 1.6 wiring.
