Is the fuel tank behind the rear axle?
The auto industry has known for decades that the fuel tank for passenger vehicles should not be located behind the rear axle as was done in the Ford Pinto and Mustang and Crown Victoria, and many other Ford, GM, Chrysler, and Japanese vehicles up through the mid-1980’s and beyond.
Why does my gas tank not fill up all the way?
Well it is possible that the purge line from the gas tank to the evap canister has been crushed or bent. Or the purge valve could be defective. It is remotely possible that, if someone removed and improperly reinstalled the gas tank, that they bent or kinked the filler tube.
Where are the fuel tanks located in a car?
If vehicle occupants survive the trauma of the crash, then they should not burn to death. Recent and current cars, such as the Ford Mustang and Ford Crown Victoria , including the Police Interceptor model, have fuel tanks unsafely located behind the rear axle that get crushed and pierced in rear impacts.
How are fuel tanks safer in a car?
Fuel tanks are safer if they are located in a protected zone forward of the rear axle, and also by using anti-puncture shields and internal tough-skin fuel cell bladders, and by eliminating the sharp bolts, brackets, and edges of the “hostile environment” around the fuel tank.
What causes a fuel tank to not vent?
Over time, fuel vapors with debris in them will plug up the vent tube and cause it to not vent the fuel tank. This will make the fuel system not fuel up under a heavy load.
Is it worth fitting long range fuel tank?
By fitting a long range tank there is less need to stop at the smaller towns, and the fuel stations especially miss out. Of course, that’s your choice to make, but if we all stopped supporting the small towns they would cease to exist.
Why does my gas tank spit out gas?
If I don’t stop and pull the nozzle out for a few seconds before pumping (for a few more seconds), it will spit gas out. It does this every time no matter how full or empty my tank is when fueling, what gas station I go to, etc. I think the air is not venting as I fuel. What causes this problem and how can I fix it? Thanks!
