How do you troubleshoot TPMS?
Press the TPMS reset button and hold it until the light blinks three times, then release it. Start the car and let it run for 20 minutes to reset the sensor. You’ll usually find the tire pressure monitor reset button beneath the steering wheel. Check your user’s manual if you’re having trouble locating it.
Can TPMS cause engine light?
If tire pressure at all 4 tires is within spec you may have a problem in the TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system). If tire pressure was low in any of the tires, once the tire pressure is corrected, drive the vehicle and see if, by chance, the check engine light turns off.
Why is the tire pressure not showing up on the dashboard?
The pressure appears to remain fairly stable when it shows on the dash so I don’t think there is a real leak, there just appears to be something wrong (as you mentioned) in the TMPS communicating with the dashboard display.
Can a tire pressure sensor measure wheel speed?
Yes, a pressure sensor that doesn’t actually measure pressure… Indirect TPMS instead uses your car’s ABS system, tapping into the wheel-speed sensor to see if one tire is rotating faster than the others. Underinflated tires have smaller circumferences, which in turn means they have to rotate faster than a properly inflated tire.
Can a tire pressure sensor trigger a warning light?
If you have an indirect TPMS system then you’re unlikely to see a light on the dash due to this, assuming of course that the pressure changes in all four tires equally. In the case of a vehicle with a direct TPMS system though, which measures the actual pressure inside your tire, such changes in temperature can very easily trigger a warning light.
How to check tire pressure in a car?
2. Grasp the top centre of the mounting plate cover push upward and pull rearward at the same time this will release the cover from the top retainers. 3. Pushing down until the cover fully releases from the mounting plate lower retainers. The lower retainer must be engaged first before the two upper bars are attached.

What does it mean when your TPMS warning light is on?
So check your tires carefully. If your vehicle has a TPMS, it’s probably monitoring the pressure in your spare tire. Therefore, if you get a low tire pressure warning light, and if you’ve checked all four tires that are touching the ground, than you might need to put some air in the spare.
How do I change the tire pressure sensor?
The TPMS has to be updated every time the wheels change position in order for it to display the correct positions. For 2012 and later models, this requires a using a “relearn” tool and going through a preset sequence with the car. In my experience, when swapping my winter/summer tires, my local shop has always failed to do this.
