How does a fan blower motor-resistor work?
Fan current passes through the resistor that is always wired in series with the fan, effectively dropping the voltage the fan see’s, whenever the fan gets power from the heater relay it should turn in at least low, but yours does not, this makes the resistor suspect.
What are the symptoms of a failed blower motor resistor?
Blower motor resistor problems. Problems with a blower motor resistor are common in many cars. The most common symptom of a failed blower motor resistor is when the heater fan only runs at high speed and doesn’t work at low speeds.
When do you need to replace the fan resistor?
If your interior AC/ Heat fan is not working on low, or one of the fan settings is not working, then you probably need to replace the blower motor resistor. This video will go though all of the steps. Is your blower fan working only on the max (4 speed)? This is a common problem with the Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda cars.
Can a broken motor switch stop a blower?
A broken blower motor switch can also stop the blower from changing to certain speed settings. If your blower motor cannot change to certain speeds, check both the resistor and the switch on your dashboard. The most common failure points are the resistor and the motor itself.

Why does my blower fan only work on one speed?
by Lee Sallings. The most common symptom of a faulty blower motor resistor is a blower fan that only works on one speed, usually high. This can be annoying, but troubleshooting is easy. If you start at the blower motor, and check resistance in the circuit, you will find the problem in no time.

Where is the resistor on a Toyota blower?
It did in fact turn out to be the “Amplifier Assy, Air” Toyota P/N 88650-60130. The part is about 3″ X 4″ and is located on the blower housing, just to the left of the blower resistor. It is held in by two screws – one up top and one on the bottom (the 4 countersunk screws in the part itself are not neccessary to remove).
How does a heater relay control a fan?
The fan gets “+” from the heater relay, the relay is controlled directly by the “A/C AUTOMATIC AMPLIFIER” this relay turns the fan on and off, since the fan does turn “on” in the high and Medium 2 settings we can assume that the heater relay works. Once turned “on” The fan speed is controlled on the negative side.
What’s the name of the resister on a Toyota Fan?
The old and new units matched identically and the box from Toyota is labelled “Resister, Blower” 87138-60220. – The fan sounds and blows great on the remaining Med Hi and Hi settings. – The Lo and Med Lo buttons light up when I select them but no change in the fan speed.
Where is the resistor on a fan blower?
The symptom sounds like a bad blower resistor. The resistor is the black thing held on with 2 bolts back under the dash behind the right side of the glove box. Just look underneath, you don’t need to remove anything to get to it.
Where is the motor for the heater blower located?
The motor that turns the blower is called the blower motor. It is located in the dashboard, usually on the opposite side of the steering wheel or inside the engine compartment on the firewall. The blower speed can be adjusted in almost every modern car.
Why is my heater blower motor resistor not working?
This occurs due to the failed blower motor resistor not being able to control the flow of electric current, it could be that the resistor is somehow bypassed and the power is directly being fed from the switch. Excessive current can overheat and permanently damage the blower motor resistor
What do you call the fan that spins the heater?
When the heater or air conditioner in your car is turned on, the fan turns on pushing the air from the car vents. The motor that spins that fan is called a blower motor.
