Is the IH 4300 DT466 getting hard to start?
I have an 05 IH 4300 DT466 with 131K miles on it. I have had a small problem with it before, usually first thing in the AM. But now it doesn’t want to start no matter what time of the day it is. If its been sitting for any length of time it cranks and will finally start after about 45 seconds.

The 466 uses oil to hydraulicly actuate your injectors. Once the o-rings start to leak, the high pressure pump has a hard time building pressure to actuate the injectors. Sometimes it takes 30 seconds to finally build enough pressure to start. This is about a 2 hour job at a dealer. Did you check ALL fluids accurately?

I have a 2004 4300 international dt466 it cranks but no start. I have changed all sensors still nothing check fuel pressure injector orings im stuck. Engine position sensor shows up when u put computer on it. Where should I check for a broken wire maybe? Plug to sensor has power and sensor is good.

The place I work at has a 2007 IH 4300 with a DT466. The past few days have been sub zero temps here. It ran fine the beginning of the week but yesterday it wouldn’t start. We pushed it in the garage and let in warm up over night. We also put the batteries on charge since they were pretty weak.

The highbeam headlights, markers and all other lights function properly. I have checked the fusebox in the engine compartment and above the glovebox and am unable to locate either a DRL/headlight, fuse or relay. I have a 2003 International 4300 with a DT466. I just had all the O-rings on the injectors replaced along with the wiring harness that goes to the injectors. Now once the truck gets up to running temp it starts to sputter/miss. Truck runs GREAT cold but once warm gets worse.
How often does a DT466 give up the ghost?
The only difference betwene the two is how light your pocket will be. If its not the issue youre only out 25 or 30 bucks. Had mine go a couple times they usualy give up the ghost every 50,000 to 100,000 as long as you dont run too hot and driving conditions.

Is the dt466e a lack of power?
The second you put it in gear it has no power. 20 mph top speed. Tested fuel pressure today at the filter. It is only reading 40 lbs at idle and it dips down to 34 or so when accelerating. I assume this is a fuel problem, but what is the problem and where do we start? Thanks in advance if anyone has done this one.

Why does my dt466e no start-fuel problem?
Got that all fixed. Realized that my primer pump would leak when I would pump it, replaced the entire assembly. Filled both filters, truck fired on the first try. Now today go to run a call, cranks and cranks wont start. Gave a shot of ether, fires but wont run on diesel.

Turns out it was the motor that switches the flaps in the dash from defrost to floor and vent now why that shuts the compressor down i have no idea but a $34.00 motor did the trick.

You will see the pressure relief ball. It may be partially unseated by debris causing a drop in fuel pressure. Anyway, you will notice a compuchek fitting on the top of the filter housing cap. You plug in a fuel pressure gauge here to test your fuel pressure. Need 20 psi to start, 65 psi is normal running pressure.

After getting it to start it has no power, it has to warm up again now before you can move it. And this was just to move it from one side of my driveway to the other. If you start from behind the head and start feeling downwards and onto the bell housing you will see that it is mounted with one small bolt at about the 11 o’clock position . It is above the starter by about 12 inches for sure but right on top of the bell housing .

The exception to that is a wiring problem with the IPR valve, since system voltage drops significantly during cranking, the IPR valve is suseptable to malfunction because of low voltage during cranking even tho there is no defect with the valve itself.

Off hand should take close to 600psi to start. also you can pull the valve cover and apply shop air pressure into the rail and look for air bypassing the injectors. Pretty common issue.:thumbsup

That’s usually the culprit on DT466’s stalling out. Cam sensors cause no start and dying on the road HOT, it is possible but very rare to have a CPS problem cold. Also, unable to build ICP is a code, it does not tell you when it happened or what the *cause* was.
