Do you have to do a crank relearn?
If you flash your computer on your car and don’t send it it you will have to do a crank relearn. It basically calibrates the crank shaft sensor with the new computer.
Why do I have to relearn the crank on my GMC Truck?
The reason for the relearn is for the missfire detection to be accurate. It is something that has to be done when useing a pcm that was not in your truck previously and had the case learn done on it. Even from the factory, each vehicle has to get this done to the computer/ motor it works with.
What to do if crankshaft position sensor fails?
Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector (3). If everything looks good, you need to check for an RPM signal or crankshaft position sensor signal. You will need a live data scanner to do that. See if the parts store will lend or rent one to you. If you find there is no crank signal, I would replace the sensor which may have failed.
Why was the scanner crank relearn never run?
Following what eric has said, it would have happened with ids. My suspicion is the code p0315 never existed, because it never met the conditions to run the code, when you did the crank relearn, it then saw an issue, and subsequently set the code. You forced it to look at the difference, and now it sees it.
What does ” crank relearn ” mean on a GM engine?
“Crank relearn” refers to a GM service procedure that has to do with the calibration of the PCM to a specific engine’s crankshaft position sensor (CKP sensor). When your Gen III (LS1, etc) or Gen IV (LS2, etc) based car or truck was put together and factory-tested, one of the procedures it went through was the “crank learn” procedure.
How to do a crank Relearn on a computer?
To perform the relearn, proceed as follows: Connect a scanner to make sure there are no trouble codes stored in the computer’s memory. If there is any power train trouble code other than P1336 (Crankshaft Position Variation not learned), the computer will disable the relearn function until the problem that caused the code has been eliminated.
When do I need to relearn GM crankshaft variation?
GM Crankshaft Variation Relearn All 1996 and newer GM vehicles with FLASH reprogramming ECCs. Crankshaft Variation Relearn Procedure must be performed if: • ECC was reprogrammed. • Crankshaft position sensor has been replaced. • ECC has been replaced. Follow the relearn procedure outlined below: 1.
When to do a crank relearn for a P0300?
When you see a P0300- car makers are now recommending a crank relearn before diagnosing a P0300 condition. They want you to eliminate the possibility of a timing chain stretch as the cause of the random misfire BEFORE you start digging into other possibilities. The exact procedure varies by car maker.
