How are spark plugs used to keep the engine running?
The spark plugs utilize the spark from the distributor to ignite the fuel mixture, which is what keeps the engine running. High voltage runs through this entire distributor system during the operation of your vehicle, but if there’s an issue this voltage won’t get distributed to the correct spark plugs to ensure that your engine will run.
Is it easy to replace spark plugs in a car?
The good thing about needing new spark plugs is that they are relatively inexpensive, and super easy to replace. With that being said, you can look up how to replace them for your car and replace them yourself as a DIY project, and the entire car repair will cost you very little!
How many coils does a spark plug need?
Provides energy for a single spark plug, requiring as many coils as there are cylinders. Combines multiple coils into a single assembly.
Why are my spark plugs not working on my outboard?
Fouled or damaged spark plugs can cause all sorts of problems in any engine, much less in an outboard. Their condition can also indicate lurking internal problems, too. If you’ve eliminated fuel problems and air problems, consider pulling each spark plug and giving it a thorough inspection.
How big is the gap between the spark plugs?
That reason is why high power vehicles (1,000 horspower and more) often run a spark plug gap as small as .016″.
What does it mean when your spark plug is not working?
Indicates the cylinder from which the spark plug came is not using all the fuel supplied to it. Check for faulty or sticking choke, overly rich fuel mixture, ignition problems, leaking fuel injectors, or spark plug heat range is too cold. Appearance – Firing tip is damp with gasoline, usually the odor of fuel is present on the spark plug.
Which is harder for spark plugs to penetrate?
The dense A/F mixture is much harder for spark to penetrate, and require much higher voltage (pressure). Higher fuel concentration has the same effect (lower A/F ratio).
Where can I read the condition of my spark plugs?
The pictures and text are from the Autolite technical manual and just made a bit easier to read in the grand scheme of EZ-Read charts here. You can find Images and PDF’s from Autolite, NGK, and other on how to read the color and condition of your spark plugs.
