Why is the power steering on my Kia Soul burnt out?
OK, so I took my 2009 Kia Soul to the authorized work center. They plug in the computer and tell me that the motor in the electric power steering system is burnt out because, and I paraphrase, “it’s been two-blocked one too many times”. Cost to replace: Over $1,000 USD, and the motor itself is $750.
Is there a fix for a Kia Power steering failure?
However they say there is no fix on their system for the power system fault. Mine stops working about once a week (twice this one). It normally sorts itself out after you turn everything off and start again. It is worrying and somewhat annoying. If quietman10 has more detailed knowledge of the fix can he let me/us know, ta very much. PS Sorry.
What to do if your power steering stops working?
Take it to the dealer,the electric power steering is rather more involved than the old type hydaulic mechanical type though it could be something simple if it stops working it could be accident causing so no risks should be taken.I recall that somewhere on thw site somebody else had had the same problem and the steering colum was replaced.

Only option is to stop the car, turn it off and wait till is operational again. It happened while hitting puddles of water or in heavy rain. I did contact Kia about it and they only said there is not a recall. Any time there is water on the road while driving my car loses steering and braking capabilities.

The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the power steering belt failed. The vehicle was repaired.
