When does the tyre pressure light come on?
The tyre pressure dashboard warning light is usually triggered when a pressure loss of around 25% or more is detected. An ‘indirect’ tyre pressure monitoring system does not have sensors inside the tyres and instead uses ABS wheel speed sensors to detect low tyre pressures.
Why are the ABS, traction control and tyre pressure lights amber?
My 56-plated 114,000 mile 2.0 TDI 140 Leon has just started showing the amber ABS, traction control and tyre pressure lights. I see from other threads that this is likely to be linked to the ABS in some way because the tyre pressure sensors work off the same system as the ABS and the traction control.
When do the ABS and tyre Lights Come On?
When I start the car just the ABS light shows. This goes after driving a few feet. After a longer distance – a quarter of a mile or sometimes five or six miles – all three lights (ABS, TC & tyre) appear at once. Views welcome! Thank you. Nath.
How does indirect tyre pressure monitoring system work?
An ‘indirect’ tyre pressure monitoring system does not have sensors inside the tyres and instead uses ABS wheel speed sensors to detect low tyre pressures. Even if your car comes equipped with a tyre pressure monitoring system, it’s still important to regularly check pressures as the system will only alert you when the issue becomes hazardous.
Why is my tire pressure sensor warning light on?
Disturbed or Tripped Sensor. If you’ve recently had your vehicle serviced and the tire warning light activated immediately or shortly after, it’s likely that something tripped one or more of the tire pressure sensors. Some models require the TPMS to be reset after adding pressure.

What does it mean when your TPMS warning light is on?
So check your tires carefully. If your vehicle has a TPMS, it’s probably monitoring the pressure in your spare tire. Therefore, if you get a low tire pressure warning light, and if you’ve checked all four tires that are touching the ground, than you might need to put some air in the spare.
