Why does my truck have a Qt leak?
My truck is leaking a qt. every 3 weeks – month and although im fairly familar with engines I cant seem to pin point the leak. Originally the leak appeared to be coming from my rear main seal due to the collection of leaking oil where the bottom of my tranny and engine meet.
How can you tell if your rear main seal is leaking?
A rear main seal leak will cause oil to drip from the bottom of the bellhousing at the front of the transmission. If you have drips coming from in front of the bellhousing, locate those leaks, stop them and clean the engine.

It CANNOT go up. OP said leak *appears* to be coming from above the rear main seal, which *could* rule out the oil pan. However, rear main seal or oil pan gasket or both could be failing. Though as mentioned in another post, it could be coming from the oil pressure sensor.

The main was definitely wet and I changed both the rear cover gasket and the main seal (the kit was less than $25 at Napa). I also serviced the tranny (dumped the fluid, changed the filter, removed and replaced the tail extension o-ring.
