Brought to NRMA Motorserve and got diagnosed as engine issue and need to open up the whole thing which cost around 4k. Nearly pull the trigger but then decided to get second opinion from KIA.

Perfect vehicle for most folks, Not a BARGE, but roomy, Decent gas mileage, reasonable power with 2.0 liter engine, great value and super warranty, Firm ride, but I like that, Can’t think of a better value. Upon research, Kia knew of this problem when the cars rolled off the factory line and let them go out into service. Dangerous vehicle. Engine needs replacement, due to lack of compression in cylinders 3 and 4, possibly due to metal shrapnel in engine from manufacturing. There is a class action against Kia for these engine failures.

Is there a recall on the Kia GDI?
Recall on GDi engine, took into Kia 2017 and they said it was fine. First failure 6 months prior to engine seize on freeway, could have died, but coasted to side of road. Didn’t know the cause but after the car sat for some hours and cooled down, it started.

Stalled several times a week and using a ton of oil. I’ve had the electrical module replaced, crankshaft sensor 2x, alternator, throttle body, cam sensor, map sensor, pcv valve and the engine scoped. Now the engine light started flashing, the vehicle got sluggish and the engine expired.

Found out only because engine light came on and problems accelerated on highway as well as hearing knocking noise. Very long story short and week later without car, found out some parts were sucked into engine. So now dealor calling a Kia rep to find out if they will replace WHOLE motor and if under warranty. Remind you car only 3 yrs old.
