Why is my ignition key stuck in my Jeep Commander?
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while stationary, the ignition key became stuck in the vehicle. In addition, the air bag light, the abs brake light and the traction control light illuminated as well.

I have a 2008 Commander that is part of the p57 recall for the ignition switch (9/2014). The switch has totally failed (2/2015). Called all the dealers in my area and nobody has received the parts yet. Called Jeep they have no update on when parts are going to be available.

Some models of the 2008 Jeep Commander have been recalled for a faulty ignition switch; however, it appears this model still has not been recalled. I received 2 notices for a recall on my ignition switch and nothing is available as of today 7/10/15. End of 2014 was my first notice and July 2015 is another.
Why is the ignition key stuck in the steering column?
This was due to the binding of parts within the shift mechanism. Understanding how it works: There is a cable that runs from the gear shifter to the ignition/key in the steering column. This cable prevents the ignition key from being removed unless the shifter is in park.
What to do when your key is stuck in the ignition?
The cap on the solenoid has a hole where a metal bar connects the solenoid to the button linkage. The Problem: The cap on this solenoid had come loose, slid down the metal bar, and was binding between the bar and metal shifter base. The Fix: Just slide the cap back on the solenoid and snap it into place.
