What kind of power steering fluid does a Jeep Commander use?
I suspect that is why Chrysler came up with the MS-10838 spec for PS fluid for the Commander (which happens to be a hybrid for hydrualic systems as well), but the manual doesn’t say that, so I don’t know. If you have a Hydrualic Fan (Hemi, not sure if the 4.7L V8 has one) then I’m “guessing” you’d be foolish NOT to use the MS-10838.
How do you flush your power steering system?
Use the turkey baster to siphon out as much fluid as possible from the reservoir. When there is no fluid left in the reservoir, turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and then turn it all the way to the left. This is maneuver is called turning the wheel “lock to lock†and will help pump more fluid back into the reservoir.
Is the power steering fluid the same as transmission fluid?
Again, ATF+4 Transmission Fluid and Power Steering Fluid +4 is the exact same thing. Before they had just as many people saying, using ATF+4 in Power Steering is Crazy, and they would use the wrong fluid and damage their PS system. So they put the ATF+4 in a bottle and called it +4 PS fluid, they created as much confusion as they solved.
What to do if you spill power steering fluid?
Be prepared for spills as the power steering fluid will come out of both ends of the hose. Tip: You can use the funnel and plastic bottle to help collect the liquid from both ends. Step 6: Pump out all possible fluid. Turn the wheel lock-to-lock in order to pump out as much fluid as possible.

Worked on the steering rack today, need to add more fluid. Manual dictates Mopar Power Steering Fluid (of course) or equivalent. What is this equivalent?
How often should I Fill my power steering fluid reservoir?
The good news is the reservoir is only part of a pint. A quart will fill it about 2.5 times. Actually, I did some research and the fluid just has to meet “MS5931” standards- this is the amber fluid for certain P/S systems. Ran downstairs right after learning that to check if the quart I used qualified.
Is there a recall on the Jeep Commander?
