Why does my Jeep Wrangler smell like coolant?
There is no coolant smell in the cabin. No abnormal puddles under the car. The only things I can think of are: the radiator is leaking and I don’t see it; or, the reservoir vent hose is just letting some smells out. I did a little digging, but I was only able to turn up information pertaining to the Wrangler and Cherokee.
What should coolant pressure be on a jeep?
The cooling system should be under 18PSI pressure, any leak would cause you to lose coolant pretty darn quickly and you would notice the loss of coolant. There can be a rare leak that is so small it that you loss the coolant slowly (and by slowly, I mean you can notice the loss of coolant over a year).
Why does my air conditioner smell like antifreeze?
The O.M. may recommend just checking the overflow tank level, but if you have a leak in the cooling system, when the engine cools off and the coolant contracts and forms a vacuum to suck coolant back in from the overflow tank, the leak allows air to be sucked in instead of coolant from the overflow tank.

Where does the coolant smell come from in a jeep?
After driving sometimes (not all!), there is a prevalent coolant smell coming from the front area of the Jeep. I notice it more toward the passenger side front; but sometimes I smell it on the driver’s side, too. I have looked around the engine bay and coolant hoses, but I can’t find any noticeable leaks.
Why does my Jeep have a bad smell when I shut it down?
One last one, if your vehicle is more than a year old, the pressure cap can be bad and a bad pressure cap will allow the cooling system to boil and let steam escape. When you first shut down the engine and water pump stops circulating coolant, the temp spikes a bit, and thus form the steam that escapes the pressure cap. I noticed the smell also.

Why does coolant smell in the trunk after running?
In the trunk by the coolant cap there is a plastic shield. Remove this and you should see a coolant air relief, or “burp” valve. Sometimes you will see dried coolant in this area which could explain the smell you are experiencing. The relief valve gaskets may need to be replaced, or the screws may just be loose, causing the leak.
