How to test my 4WD actuator in a 2002 Silverado?
Is there a way to test your 4×4 actuator in a 2002 Silverado to see if it is actually working? I have replaced it with a new actuator and new transfer case control switch and still cannot get my truck to go into 4×4. Switch just blinks and blinks 4hi or auto. I also have changed wires to make sure of bad wires. No idiot lights on either.
What happens when I switch my actuator from 2WD to 2WD?
Same as when you switch back to 2wd you can hear the motor on the transfer case and then the front actuator will move as well and the light will quit blinking and stay lit in 2wd.
When does the transfer case actuator stop blinking?
Yes once the cycle is complete, meaning once first the transfer case actuator cycles to 4 high (which you should be able to hear coming from under the centre of the vehicle as it is very noticeable) and then the front differential actuator engages the light quits blinking and stays lit in 4wd hi.

Where is the 4 wheel drive actuator located?
The 4 wheel Drive Actuator actually installs quite easily. Locate it on the front axle. Unplug it. Use a large adjustable or correct size wrench and remove the actuator. Reverse to install a new one. When you press the button in your vehicle an electrical current passes through the actuator. The actuator is filled with a gas.
Why does my GMC front axle shift actuator not engage?
A VERY telling symptom that this particular part is your problem is if your 4WD engages when the weather is warm but either does not engage or takes a lot longer to engage when the weather is colder. On most vehicles you push a button for 4WD and an indicator light blinks until the actuator engages.
How does the thermal actuator work on a 4WD truck?
But the Posi-Lok system stays locked even when the ignition is off. The thermal actuator came first, when you engage 4WD there is a soft piece of plastic, maybe even wax that has to heat up before the actuator engages. The electric version came out in 98 or so and engages immediately.
When did my 2003 suburban 4WD system fail?
When my 2003 Suburban’s 4WD system failed, I was 4 hours from home with my travel trailer! The front axle was halfway engaged, so it produced a gut-wrenching grinding noise during turns for the entire drive home. However, I fixed it myself-and I bet you can, too!
Why is my service 4WD indicator not working?
If the wires are broken, the actuator won’t operate and the actuator won’t move. If it does not move to the proper position, the buttons on the dash will blink and the “Service 4WD” indicator will be lit because the TCCM never sees a complete 4WD engagement. The ground wire to my front axle actuator was the culprit on my truck.
