Does a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon have a limited slip differential?

TJ Enthusiast I was able to find this: The Rubicon TJ had a Tru-Lok in the rear, it’s a gear type limited slip combined with a manually selectable locker and does not need special lube. The non-Rubicon models had an optional Trac-Lok that is a clutch type limited slip and does need special lube.

How does a limited slip differential work on a wrangler?

It is designed to act like an open differential in most driving conditions. In conditions where both wheels have an equal amount of traction and the vehicle is not turning, the differential will spin both wheels at the same speed with an equal amount of torque. This is how vehicles with limited slip differentials are able to do burnouts.

Where can I get a Jeep Wrangler limited slip?

On a side note…..if you end up getting it, you should come to the Texas JK meets once a month. 1st Wednesday of the month (last night actually) in Grapevine. Usually 30-50 rigs there at a time. Check out the site, too. TexasJK.com

How can I tell if I have a limited slip differential?

The tag is still attached to the differential with a bunch of numbers, but a Google search revealed nothing. Thanks. The easiest way to tell if you have a limited slip differential is to jack up the rear of the Jeep.

Is the rear end of a jeep Sahara limited slip?

Finally got a fairly detailed email back from Jeep that answered my question. Turns out that the Trac-lok on the Sahara is an open differential unless you pay for the non slip option, which then gives you a limited slip rear end in 2 wheel drive mode. However, in 4wd mode, the rear is electronically locked and all four wheels are engaged.

What kind of differential do I need for my Jeep Wrangler?

Equip you Jeep with lockers and a solid limited slip differential to conquer whatever is in your way. Most stock Wranglers are equipped with an open differential which works extremely well until you get stuck because only one wheel will be spinning. This is where it’s useful to have lockers for your Wrangler.
