Why does the 4WD light come on on my Patriot?
My wife has an 08 Patriot, the 4wd! is currently coming on when we drive. After taking it for a oil change it was found that this is the sensor that is in the rear diff.
Is the service 4WD light coming on again?
After a few months of ownership, I started having the ‘service 4wd’ light blink on for a few seconds at random times. The dealer flashed the TSB concerning the problem and it went away. A few weeks ago the light started coming on again, concurrently with the ‘traction control off’ light.

The only wiring to the RDU (Rear Drive Unit) is for the ECC (Electronically Controlled Clutch). If the wires pulled out of it then it may be toast. What causes the 4WD warning light to come on?
2007 Jeep Compass, my Mom bought it used. The (4WD!) light comes on and sometimes it will all but bog down to a complete stop. Sometimes it stalls the jeep. You restart it and continue on your way. What would cause this? Also the ABS and EPS lights stay on.

Is there a fix for the 4WD light on?
There are a few power splices (like a 2-into-1 splice) in there that have been known to corrode (not protected very well from slushy/wet feet wetting the carpet). You’ll have to pull off some plastic trim and peel the carpet back to find it. Also, make sure nothing is holding the 4×4 lock lever up slightly, like a coin or something.
