How does sway bar disconnect work?
The sway bar is able to be disconnected easily because it runs through a metal housing that is connected to a motor. Inside the metal housing is an electric spline that attached to the two ends of the sway bar. This causes the spline to push the two ends of the sway bar apart, disconnecting them.
How does a sway bar disconnect help off-road?
It operates on the front sway bar and can only be disconnected in either 4-high or 4-low. Once you press the button to disconnect the sway bar the light on the dashboard will blink. This tells you the electric motor is, via some mechanical jiggery pokery separating the two sway bars.
