It has to be completely dark for the auto mode to work. My high beams actually turn off when there is a reflection from the big road signs, especially the yellow “no passing zone” facing my way from the left side. It turn them off also if the cars in front of me are far, far away. But if you are in country roads in complete dark works perfectly.
