Why does my Jeep make a clunking sound when I reverse?

Why does my Jeep make a clunking sound when I reverse?

A very little play in the pinion gear (I think that’s what it’s called…the one that goes in the back of the diff), but it seems within what would be normal to me. Thanks again for the help! Ok, one more note: the clunking sound is coming from the pinion/rear diff. Jeep got a 2.5” lift a couple weeks ago and now has 33” MTs.

Why is my Honda Civic making a clunking noise?

It’s common for struts and stabilizer bar bushings to wear out first among suspension components (especially on the rear end of a front wheel drive vehicle like you’re Honda Civic).

What’s the clunking noise from the rear of my car?

Q: Clunking noise from the rear passenger side when going over uneven roads or bumps. Hi there! So I’ve been hearing clunking noise from my car lately.

What makes a clunking noise when going over 50?

I’m unable to hear it when going over 50+, at least rarely. I checked the shop if it was the exhaust system being too loose and it may have been, but they said it can not make that sound. I double checked the trunk by taking out the spare tires and checking the noise and it was still there.

Why does my Chevy truck make a clunking noise?

Why does my rear differential make a clunking noise?

If the pinion bearings are the problem, they create more of a whirring noise than a rumble because it turns several times faster than the carrier assembly. Regular clunking every few feet can also be an indicator of a broken pinion gear and/or chipped and damaged ring gear.

Why does my Jeep clunk when I put it in reverse?

Ok, one more note: the clunking sound is coming from the pinion/rear diff. Jeep got a 2.5” lift a couple weeks ago and now has 33” MTs. Any adjustment to the angle/pinion depth required? I guess I’m still not sure why it only clunks when going into reverse. Oh, and one more! Haha. Noise goes away when I put it in 4wd.

Why is my rear end clunking when I stop?

There’s nothing wrong with the rear axle, it’s the slip yoke in the rear of the T-case like Spitz already mentioned. There were multiple TSB’s for this issue which included an updated nickle plated yoke. Greasing it will fix it temporarily but changing the yoke to the new design will fix it permanently.

What makes a clunk when shifting in reverse?

The worn spider gears may make some noise but the clunk occurs when shifted in reverse / hard to disengage PARK might be something else. If the clunk is heard in the Diff, I would think that would be indicative of worn pinion gear, or bearing? Jeepwilli [OP] and TJ_abuser like this. Ok, finally getting around to looking at this again today.

Why does my Dana 44 clunk in reverse?

Clunking only in reverse I would imagine is from gear slack I know ring and pinion will do that when they are worn out . I’ve worn a few out and they always started making a noise I put 33’s on my Dana 44 and it didn’t start clunking in reverse Anyone smarter than me see anything obvious here? Thanks in advance! I appreciate any help!

What’s the name of the Jeep that clunks in reverse?

2007 JK automatic 2.5” lift. No other major mods. When I first start the Jeep, it doesn’t want to shift out of P. Then, after a second, I get it into R, but there is a big clunk when I do. Here is a video of the DS and rear diff when it happens. Thanks in advance if you can help! If playback doesn’t begin shortly, try restarting your device.
