Why does my engine not start if cam sensor fails?
The other name the cam sensor carries is “sync sensor”. It lets the PCM know when #1 cylinder is in TDC position. The PCM knows what the firing order is and begins firing the injectors sequentially, during the intake stroke. If the sensor fails, the PCM has no way to know what injector to fire… so no start.
What should I do if my crank sensor fails?
If you find there is no crank signal, I would replace the sensor which may have failed. If there is a signal, see if the engine starts for a couple seconds with starting fluid.
What causes a jeep to have a no start condition?
The usual suspects, that can cause this type of problem, are a bad fuel pump, bad crank sensor, bad ignition coil (if your Jeep is distributor equipped), etc. Does Not Crank Condition: Means that the engine is not cranking when you turn the key to crank the engine.
Why does the engine light up while cranking?
Last edited by Digger; July 29th, 2011 at 11:55 AM . So a test light on the injector wires will light up while cranking, because power is going to them, but the CAM sensor will not actually let that power through to fire the injector? I will get a new sensor just because, and let you all know. Thanks “Stigger” Well, not quite.
Why does my car not start when I change the cam sensor?
Most of the time, this code comes up when there is a difference between the crank and cam sensors. The most common failure is the crankshaft position sensor. These fail much more frequently than the cam sensor and will cause a no start. It can also occur if the timing belt broke or jumped a tooth.
What to do after a crank shaft sensor replacement?
Generally after sensor replacement such as that one, it’s a good idea to reset a few “adaptive” parameters which are fuel and idle. Those won’t keep the vehicle from running regardless as the PCM will relearn the values after a few drive cycles.
Is there a way to relearn the cam position sensor?
There is a Cam Position Relearn procedure that can be done with the dealer proprietary tool or some of the expensive aftermarket independent tools. But that procedure is not for replacing the cam position sensor, its for when you take the timing chain/belt and cam apart, like during a head change.
Can you push the start button on a jeep?
Yes, with the push button start that is not as easy with the ignition key, you’d have to keep your foot off the brake and press it twice, then wait a couple of seconds and then put your foot on the brake and press the start button. Wolf, what year is your Jeep and what engine do you have?
