Can a Grand Wagoneer backfire out the CARB?
I’ve got an ’87 Grand Wagoneer that has recently started running really badly. It is hard to start. Idles poorly cold. And, has about 10% power. When in motion, it will backfire out the carb. Quite often, almost always, after a few backfires, it will suddenly run great, as long as throttle is maintained.
What should I do if my 360 Wagoneer backfires?
Check all you plug wires first and make sure none are grounding out on exhaust manifold and the like. If a plug wire is burnt through it will do all of these things. Check the vacuum hoses for leaks and make sure it is good to the distributor. It only backfires under load, at about 3000 (?) rpm.
