I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee with 4.7L v8 and i think the transfer case is going bad. It used to just happen when it was cold but over last year it does it all the time now. When i go to turn left or right i hear a rubbing like sound and it almost feels like something is binding up. It almost feels like it is hopping when i turn it.

Same thing happened to my 94 Grand Cherokee…dealer replaced the transfer case..problem corrected. Mine is doing the same thing , have changed all the fluids, saw the most difference after changing fluid in transfer case, my Jeep is a 01 Grand Cherokee LTD. V8.

It senses the speed difference between the front and rear axles and can transfer the force from the rear axle partly to the front. All fluid levels are good including tranfer case. My jeep is a limited 4.7 L and is all-time 4 wheel drive so it cant be shifted out of 4wd.
