When does the check gauge light come on?
The Check Gauges light will only come on after it’s hit third gear and has been running in it for a least 10 seconds. I tested this for about 5 minutes riding around my neighborhood in 1st and 2nd trying to keep it under 3rd. Once I hit the main streets, the light came on within 10-15 seconds. I tried this twice.
How can I tell if my alternator is bad?
You can check if the field coil is powered by connecting a multimeter to the terminals of the field coil, and starting the engine. Be careful to avoid getting caught by the alternator belt! With the engine running, there should be voltage across the terminals.
