How long does a TJ clutch last?
Most clutches are designed to last approximately 60,000 miles before they need to be replaced. Some may need replacing at 30,000 and some others can keep going well over 100,000 miles, but this is fairly uncommon.
When is the right time to replace the clutch?
With the clutch pedal fully out (i.e. not pressed at all), there should be no slip whatsoever. Slip can be identified by an unexpected increase in engine revs without any accompanying acceleration when your car is in gear, the clutch pedal is not pressed and you push the throttle pedal.
How to troubleshoot a clutch that won’t fully disengage?
Step 1: Collect all tools and your creeper and place them out of the way. Step 2: Raise the vehicle. Using a floor jack that is recommended for the weight of the vehicle, lift under the vehicle at its specified jacking points until the wheels are completely off the ground. Step 3: Remove the jack stands and keep them far away from the vehicle.
Where are the jacks for the clutch stands?
For most modern cars, the jacking points for jack stands will be on the pinch weld just under the doors along the bottom of the car. Step 1: Put on your safety glasses, grab your flashlight, and grab your creeper. Go under the vehicle and check the condition of the clutch cable or hydraulic lines. Make sure that the cable is tight.
Is it normal to have a stiff clutch pedal?
When you step on the clutch pedal with your foot, there should not be too much resistance. A normal clutch pedal depression will feel nice and smooth. Some vehicles have stiffer clutch pedals than others, depending on the amount of torque the transmission is designed to handle and if the vehicle comes with any type of clutch assist.
When to change the clutch on a Jeep Wrangler?
From having smoked my Luk clutch while offroading a number of times, I was shocked at how much clutch material was left at 161K miles when I decided to change it out of caution. As hard as I used it with lots of abuse, there was enough clutch material left for it to have probably made it over 200K miles.

What happens when you press down on the clutch?
All the rotational energy created by the engine gets transferred to the wheels through the clutch. If you ever have problems pressing down on the clutch, then you will have problems transferring power to your wheels. This will ultimately result in the inability to drive safely on the road.
