Which is better an involute spline or an external spline?

Which is better an involute spline or an external spline?

Involute splines are the predominant form bacause they are stronger than straight sided splines and are easier to cut and the fit. The external spline can be formed either by hobbing or by a gear shaper.

How to choose an involute spline for a shaft Dia?

The external spline is varied to obtain the desired fit. The very simplest method of initially selecting of involute spline based on a shaft dia is to arrive at an initial Pitch circle dia (D) and a module (m).

Which is the best description of a spline curve?

A spline curve is a mathematical representation for which it is easy to build an interface that will allow a user to design and control the shape of complex curves and surfaces. The general approach is that the user enters a sequence of points, and a curve is constructed whose shape closely follows this sequence.

What kind of equation is used to compute a spline?

There are various types/orders of equations that can be used to specify the splines including linear, quadratic, cubic, etc. A set of N points requires N-1 splines to connect them. Each spline is described by an equation (e.g., a polynomial). The coefficients in those polynomials are initially unknown, and the spline algorithm computes them.

How to tell if a shaft has a spline?

You first need to ask how long the spline and its mating part have been in service, as well as other history. Then look at the entire system: alignment, lubrication, etc. I see blue tint that is suggestive of overheating, but photographing bright metal surfaces is difficult.

Is there any way to tell what spline a 700R4 has?

Discussion in ‘ Transmission & Driveline Topics ‘ started by 79chevymuscle, Nov 30, 2009 . Is there any way to tell what spline besides takin the converter off? Im not sure what year car the trans came out of so I am not able to tell that way either. Also are all 700r4’s lockups? Yes, all 700’s are lock-up.

Is the spline 700 lock up in high gear?

Yes, all 700’s are lock-up. Pretty much all overdrive auto transmissions will be. It keeps the fluid temp down when in high gear. I’m trying to remember when the 700’s went to the bigger input shaft. I think it was ’86.

Can a chisel be used to remove a spline?

It can get so bad that the coupling loses the ability to handle any misalignment. The combination of dried grease and debris can become so hard and tough that the only way it can be removed is with a chisel and hammer. You might as well assemble the spline with a handful of lapping compound.
