Is there a leak in the timing cover?

Have someone verify that the pump is or is not leaking and go from there. A water pump would be far cheaper to replace, and may look like a timing cover leak. Check the water pump weep hole for leaks or stains caused by a leak. Yes this area is a common leak point for V engines.

Where is the oil coming from in the timing cover?

Re-sealing the timing cover isn’t a super quick job even if it could be done with the engine in the vehicle. Working on the engine is certainly a lot easier with the engine removed. He had it cleaned up when I saw it on the lift. The oil was coming from right where the bolt is for the VVT line.

Why is oil leaking from the timing chain?

Thanks so much for your time! Timing chains have engine oil lubricating them, so the leak is probably just the oil normally in the timing cover area. Camshaft seals are not routing maintenance, and only need to be replaced when leaking. But there is supposed to be oil in that area, so it’s kind of a moot point, I guess.

Where is the oil leak on a timing cover?

The timing cover is a notorious leak location on many vehicles due to the timing cover’s large size, awkward shape, and multiple joints that need to be sealed.   On top of that, your timing cover will also have an oil seal where your harmonic balancer is attached to the front of your crankshaft.

What causes the timing cover to wear out?

Oil is leaking in the center of the vehicle. The timing cover has a gasket that allows the cover to be securely attached to the engine block. Over time and due to exposure to heat, dirt, road grime, and more, the gasket can often become cracked or wear out.

Why is my timing cover leaking on my Camry?

Water pump/timing cover more accessible on either. Told the wife when the Avalon gives up the ghost we are buying a 4 banger Corolla or Camry. Did a lot of Google search last night and some (but not a lot) have this timing cover leak. The source seem to be the sealer Toyota used and failed on the 3.5 V6.
