Is there an ESP off light on my ve?
VE ESP issue. Very unusual fault in my VE, I know that most of you probs won’t be able to help – but any ideas would be appreciated. I have a VE which I picked up the other week, drove fine for a week, then spat up an ESP OFF light. ESP wouldn’t turn back on at all. About 5mins later, the Check Engine light came on – and stayed on.
How does the ESP work in a car?
Modern cars have an onboard computer that monitors most of the car’s functions. If one wheel slips, the ESP will control the other wheels by reducing power and applying brakings to correct your car’s stability. The ESP can also inform the car’s engine to reduce power if your car is steering dangerously.
Do you need a stop lamp for a check engine light?
You need to have it checked for codes with an SDS instead of throwing parts at it, but a stop lamp switch is always a good/cheap part to try first. The check engine light could be numerous items, or even a loose gas cap. Don’t top off that fuel tank, when it clicks off at the pump don’t round off to the next dollar.
When does the ESP light flash on the dashboard?
When you are driving through slippery surfaces, the ESP light will turn on and flash on your dashboard when it’s working. If the light is constant, you have a problem associated with your Electronic Stability Program. You can differentiate the light by the presence of two skid marks with a car on top.
What does the ESP light mean on a car?
The ESP can also inform the car’s engine to reduce power if your car is steering dangerously. This will then influence the power that is being supplied to individual wheels. This comes in handy when, for example, you keep revving the car on the icy ground, but there is no traction on the wheels.
Is it dangerous to drive with a faulty ESP light?
It is extremely dangerous to drive a car with a faulty ESP because you will have limited control of the car when driving on slippery or icy roads. The wheel sensors send information to the ABS and this will help you to steer the car during bad weather.
