How to use the brake vacuum assistance system?
Pump the brake pedal until the brake vacuum assistance is exhausted. 2 Remove the engine cover (see Fig. 1). • Remove the oil filler cap. • Release the 4 clips. Fig. 1 3 Remove the fuel injector sound proofing (see Fig. 2). Fig. 2 4 CAUTION : Always plug any open connections to prevent contamination.
How to check the function of a vacuum booster?
Booster Function Test: Check pedal feel and vacuum booster function while test-driving the vehicle. With the engine off, apply the brake pedal repeatedly with medium pressure until the booster reserve is depleted.
What to do if your vacuum pump is leaking?
If the hose is not at fault, suspect an engine mechanical problem such as leaky valves, worn rings, an intake manifold vacuum leak, improper cam timing, etc. Vacuum Inlet Check Valve Test: To test the vacuum check valve, disconnect the vacuum supply hose from the intake manifold or vacuum pump, and blow into the hose.
How many power assisted stops can a vacuum booster do?
In the event of a loss of pressurized fluid, the accumulator will provide two to three power-assisted stops. Upon the first application of the brakes after an engine stall or loss of power steering, you would find approximately 60% to 75% of the normal assist available.
Can a vacuum pump be burned on a brake pedal?
The brake pedal will be very hard at the beginning. After it feels normal again (vacuum is OK now) then measure the impedance again, the contacts should be open now. If they are still closed the switch is bad and probably the vacuum pump is burned too.
How does a vacuum pump work on a car?
After a minute or so the engine produces enough vacuum for the brake booster. To compensate this there is an electrical vacuum pump that it activated by a vacuum switch when the vacuum is too low. When the vacuum is back to normal the switch disconnects the pump, which is not designed to run for an extended period of time.
Why is there no vacuum in my brake system?
Symptoms: After a startup when engine is cold there is no brake assist, the brake pedal feels very hard, braking efficiency is very low and for some reason it feels worse when driving in reverse. Normal operation: The brake assist needs vacuum and after the engine was stopped for a while there is not enough vacuum left in the system.
