How to unlock the rear tailgate in a jeep?
If keyfob in rearpocket or withother keys or in wife’s purse rear button will not work…. Issue seems exclusive to rear gate button Your keyfob has to be pretty close to the liftgate, within three feet according to the 2012 Owner’s Manual, for the button on the liftgate to unlock the doors.

Your keyfob has to be pretty close to the liftgate, within three feet according to the 2012 Owner’s Manual, for the button on the liftgate to unlock the doors. The defect is getting even stranger. Sometimes when I’m behind the tailgate the locks cycle on and off without me even touching the button.

Stop it from lowering so you can keep it open and at least use it at that less than fully open position and it will switch off and go into manual only mode. It won’t shut by any of the electrical options and you will have to manually shut it then also. All fixed from the dealer…contact issue.

Can a jeep door lock open and close automatically?

Why is the tailgate not latching on my Jeep?
Went to close it and nothing…tried it from the overhead button, rear button and key fob. Nothing. So I “closed” it manually and it will not latch/secure the tailgate. Tried to put it in reverse, then drive, then park and open/close…and it just stays open! :slapfight: Thoughts?
