Where did I Drive my 1992 Jeep Cherokee?
Over Thanksgiving weekend, I drove my 255,000 mile 1992 Jeep Cherokee 1,300 miles from Michigan to and from Virginia. It’s a vehicle whose engine I had blown up three years prior and swapped with a $145 Craigslist motor that was being sold out of a field. Here’s how that cheap engine held up in its first real test.

Why did I Lift my Jeep daily driver?
The main reason I lifted my Jeep was because it was starting to look a bit pathetic with its saggy rear leaf pack, heavily-scratched paint, rusty rocker panels, and off-color driver’s side fender. I figured I could lift the Jeep out of its Pathetic Old Junker status and turn it into something actually kinda badass, and I think I was right.
Why is my Jeep wandering in one direction?
Take the Jeep out for a test drive. Test driving the Jeep can give you some clue as to the source of the wandering problem. Accelerate to approximately 35 mph and let go of the wheel. If the vehicle makes a sudden veer in either direction, then you probably have an alignment problem.

How long do you let a Jeep XJ idle?
Let the XJ idle for 5-10 minutes to make sure the electric fan turns on. Obviously, keep an eye on the coolant gauge and make sure it holds steady at operating temperature. If you’re looking at a Renix check to see if the cooling system has been converted from a closed loop system to an open loop system.
Are there any rust spots on a Jeep XJ?
Unfortunately, XJs are pretty prone to rust given their relatively old age. The rocker panels directly under the door is a common rust spot, as is the lower part of the rear quarter panels. If the XJ you’re looking at has rust on the unibody frame rails we would strongly recommend staying away from it.
