Why does my car not start when the Lights Come On?
As CharlieRB pointed out, just because the lights come on doesn’t mean the battery is ok. However, there are a few other things it could be. It could be that the battery is OK, but is not being charged sufficiently by the alternator. It could also be that the battery and alternator are ok, but that you could have what is called voltage drop.
Can a car not start but the battery is good?
If you see the lights working and the radio functioning and thought that battery is good, this is not the right conclusion.
Why is my car battery not charging properly?
If it’s showing less, the battery isn’t being charged as well as it should, and it will be especially apparent when you’re running accessories like lights, wipers, rear defroster and the radio. If it shows MORE than 14.7 volts, the alternator is overcharging the battery and will eventually cook the life out of it.
Why does a car not start with a broken starter?
Your starter is vital to your car because it is responsible for starting the engine. The battery sends it a jolt of electricity, which the starter uses to turn the engine over and get it to start. A broken starter will make a clicking sound when you turn the key. The car won’t start, but the dash lights are on.
Why is my car clicking but not starting?
If the car won’t start clicking noise but battery is good, the real culprit is the parasitic drain. Defective alternator diode or some kind of electrical problems are the main causes.
Can you start a car with no battery?
You can start a car without a battery and the car can run without a battery. If you have a manual trans its just a matter of push starting the car with someone pushing behind it. In order to start an automatic you would need to get the car up to a speed where the converter has enough pressure to lock up (never tried that before).
What would cause car battery not to charge?
A car that won’t start can be caused by a fault with the alternator or some other part of the electrical charging system. Faulty injectors or a clogged fuel filter can also cause a car to struggle and splutter when starting. Your car battery will cycle through thousands of charges and discharges over it’s lifetime.
Can a bad car starter drain a battery?
A ‘bad’ starter wont drain the battery while it is not being used to start the car, if that is what you mean. If the starter has a damaged commutator, it will not run at full power and so could mean that you have to turn the engine over longer to get the engine to start which will use more energy from the battery.
